Cutting Edge Fashion, Art, Home Accents and More at New York City’s Emerging Designer Markets

Spring has finally sprung and you are itching to buy something fresh for the wardrobe – maybe a vintage-style string of beads, a pastel-colored clutch, or a bright chiffon blouse. Or, perhaps you would like to spruce up your abode with a funky new lamp, beaded pillows or a stunning vase. Rather than browse your usual suspects for these items, why not explore the special wares at a few of New York City’s emerging designer markets?

TheMarketNYC Opens a New West Village Location on April 12
It is a perfect mix of the old and the new. Tucked in right beside the rectory of Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral on Mulberry Street in Little Italy/Nolita is a market showcasing fashion and jewelry from some of New York’s newest designers. From handbags and “eco-friendly” jewelry made from recycled materials, to scarves, belts and still, more jewelry, TheMarketNYC is giving up-and-coming designers a chance to reach shoppers who stroll the charming blocks of this neighborhood.

And starting April 12, TheMarketNYC will open a new space in the West Village which, in addition to fashion and accessories, will feature original paintings, photography, pillows, glass, ceramics and other arts and crafts.

“This space will be ideal for all young artists that produce their own work and don’t know where to sell it,” says Alex Pabon, manager of TheMarketNYC.

Nolita Location: 268 Mulberry Street (between Prince and Houston), Manhattan. Open every Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. West Village Location (opening April 12, 2008): 490 Hudson Street (between Christopher and Grove), Manhattan. Open every Saturday from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 pm.
